NSRC Staff and Volunteer Activities Around the World 2009

  • November 29-December 14:. The NSRC supported the second workshop held jointly by PHEA and AfNOG at the ICT Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra, Ghana to help strengthen ICT skills in East Africa.
  • December 7-11: Alain Aina taught at an Initial Registry Operation Course held in Dakar, Sénégal.
  • November 16-19: Hervey Allen and Sebastian Buettrich taught a Network Management and Security workshop at the PacNOG 6 workshop and conference held in Nadi, Fiji
  • November 14-20: Steve Huter Participated in the SC 2009 event held in Portland, Oregon, USA
  • November 9-13: The NSRC funded travel for instructors Antoine Bagula and Ermanno Pietrosemoli as well as supporting Alain Aina to organize a wireless workshop in Cotonou, Benin in cooperation with WirelessU, ISOC and NetworkTheWorld.
  • November 2-4: José Domínguez and Hervey Allen taught and assisted at a Network Capacity building workshop towards a Bolivian NREN in La Paz, Bolivia.
  • November 2-3: Joe St. Sauver, sponsored by the NSRC, gave a talk at the Open Access 2009 conference held in Accra, Ghana.
  • October 12-16: The NSRC supported a wireless training workshop at the intERLab training center at the Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Thailand.
  • September 28-October 4: The NSRC supported a joint effort by PHEA and AfNOG to teach workshops in East Africa to strengthen ICT skills at 12 African Universities. The first workshop was held at the ICT Centre, University of Ghana, Legon, Accra, Ghana.
  • September 21-25: Hervey Allen, Carlos Armas y José Domínguez de el NSRC, junto con varios amigos, participó en el 12° Taller sobre Tecnologías de Redes Internet para América Latina y el Caribe o WALC 2009 que pasó en Bogotá, Colombia
  • September 10-24: Sebastian Buettrich taught a WirelessU workshop and assisting with deployment of wireless equipment in Pokhara, Nepal and surrounding areas.
  • September 2-5: Joel Jaeggli and Steve Okay (NSRC-funded volunteers) taught a WirelessU workshop in conjunction with the PacINET 2009 meeting held in Port Moresby, Papa New Guinea.
  • September 3-4: Hervey Allen and Phil Regnauld taught in the Introduction to Secure Registry Operations course that was part of the Latin American and the Caribbean ccTLDs Organization (LACTLD) technical training series, Santiago, Chile.
  • July 20-24: Hervey Allen, José Domínguez, Jeff Hite, Steven Huter, Dale Smith, Steve VanDevender and Carlos Vicente particpated in the Summer School of Network Design and Operations held in Eugene, Oregon, USA
  • June 14-19: Hervey Allen, Phil Regnauld and Merike Kao (NSRC-funded volunteer) taught at the PacNOG 5 event, Papeete, French Polynesia
  • June 9-11: Steve Huter participated in the TERENA 2009 conference, and worked with colleagues in DANTE to coordinate R&E development activities.
  • May 25: José Domínguez taught an Introductory BGP tutorial at LACNIC XII held in Panamá City, Panamá
  • May 10-19: Alain Aina, Hervey Allen, Phil Regnauld, and Dale Smith taught and assisted at the 10th AfNOG Meeting and Workshops as well as the AfREN meeting held in Cairo, Egypt
  • May 4-6: José Domínguez and Steve Huter taught a two-day BGP/Routing Workshop and assisted with the creation of a new IXP in Boutilliers, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
  • April 26-30: Dale Smith attended the Internet2 meeting in Washington DC and chaired the Emerging National Research and Education Network forum on April 27, Washington DC. USA.
  • April 13-17: Phil Regnauld taught in the Attack/Disaster Contingency and Recovery Planning (A/DCRP) workshop at AfTLD 2009, Arusha, Tanzania
  • April 6: Dale Smith and Steven Huter participated in the Internet2 International group meeting held at Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA
  • February 25-27: Olaf Kolkman (NSRC-funded volunteer) taught a DNSSEC Hands-on Workshop, Bangkok, Thailand
  • February 18-22: Hervey Allen and Phil Regnauld taught a network management workshop and a DNSSEC tutorial at APRICOT 2009, Manila, Philippines
  • February 3-4: Carlos Vicente participated in the Global DNS Security, Stability, and Resiliency Symposium, Atlanta, Georgia, USA
  • January 28-30: Steven Huter and José Domínguez visited the Universidy of the West Indies to work with engineering staff at U of WI on their new Internet2 connection, and to plan a set of technical workshops with a group of Caribbean university partners, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago
  • January 25-28: Steven Huter and José Domínguez attended NANOG 45, met with NAP del Caribe and Dominican university Staff to discuss networking services, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic
  • January 17-21: Steven Huter participated in the Pacific Telecommunications Council meeting in Hawaii, and worked with a group of Pacific Island universities and colleges on the design of a Pacific Islands research and education network.
